Creating a Mandala

The process of creating a Mandala

 Drawing the structure

Drawing a Mandala

I use a pencil and ruler to find center, a compass to make circles and a protractor to evenly divide.  As I construct the frame work I become inspired and the mandala begins to reveal itself.

When I have a rough sketch I use liner pens to finalize the design.

 Applying color with Oil Paint

I scan my finished drawing, resize and print off the image. I apply a thin layer of oil paint usually burnt sienna on the back and tape it to the canvas. Using a pen I trace over the structure to transfer the image.

After removing the template.

Starting at the center I work my way out. After I get a layer of color down I allow time to dry to keep me from smudging my previous work.

I finish with line work and details.
