I’m Jennifer Pichler, a self taught Artist working out of my home studio in Central Wisconsin. I paint Mandalas with Oils on canvas using designs I’ve drawn.
A need to deepen my understanding of color drives my work.
I found drawing mandalas to be a meditative break from the planned outcomes of my oil painting commissions. I incorporated elements from nature, focusing on creating contrast and balance. The drawings piled up it became clear I needed to start painting them.
I chose colors I’ve experienced while wandering through nature. I wanted to recreate how it felt watching a storm roll in or the glimmering moments in life so beautiful that all thought stops. My work represents the beauty and color I find in nature.
Process
I draw mandalas with liner pens on Smooth Bristol paper. Using a copy of my design I make an oil transfer onto a 12×12” canvas. Working from the center out I apply color, once dry I repeat the process with details and line work.
What I’ve learned from painting Mandalas:
It’s possible to be both beautiful and filled with mistakes
To follow my intuition
Devote time to create but also time to reflect
